It is usually the first question we are asked, and the honest answer is that it depends on the job. Two offices with the same floor area can cost very different amounts to clear, because the price is driven by what is inside, how easy it is to get out, and where it has to go afterwards. This guide explains what makes up the cost of an office clearance in Glasgow, so you know what to expect before you ask for a quote.
What is the typical cost of an office clearance in Glasgow?
As a rough guide, prices published by clearance firms across Glasgow range from around £100 plus VAT to remove a handful of desks and chairs, to several thousand pounds for a full strip out of a multi-floor office. Most small and medium offices sit somewhere in between. Any figure you see online is only a starting point, because no two clearances involve the same mix of items, access and disposal routes.
That is why a proper quote is based on a site survey or a set of clear photos, rather than the size of the building alone.
What affects the price of an office clearance?
1. How much there is to clear
Volume is the biggest single factor. The number of desks, chairs, pedestals, filing cabinets, partitions and boardroom tables decides how many crew members and how many lorry loads the job needs. A team of ten leaving a single floor is a very different job to a 200 desk headquarters.
2. Access and loading
Ground floor offices with a loading bay are the quickest to clear. Upper floors with no lift, narrow stairwells, long carries to the vehicle and restricted loading times in the city centre all add labour. Glasgow city centre jobs often need to work around parking restrictions and building management rules, so it helps to tell us about access when you ask for a price.
3. Dismantling and strip out work
Bench desking, fixed workstations, shelving and partition walls all need to be taken apart before they can be moved. If you also need carpets lifted or the space stripped back to a shell for the next tenant, that moves the job closer to a soft strip, which takes more time and labour.
4. IT equipment and confidential waste
Computers, monitors, printers and phones are classed as waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and must be handled separately. Any device that holds data needs secure destruction with a certificate. You can read more about this in our guide to secure hard drive disposal and on our WEEE recycling Glasgow page.
5. Disposal costs and landfill tax
Anything that cannot be reused or recycled carries a disposal cost. Since 1 April 2026 the standard rate of Scottish Landfill Tax has been £130.75 per tonne, and that cost is passed down through every waste contractor. The more of your clearance that is reused or recycled, the less of it attracts this charge. Our average recycling rate is over 90 percent, which keeps disposal costs as low as possible.
6. Timing
Evening and weekend work, tight lease deadlines and same day requests can all affect the price. Booking a week or two ahead gives you the most flexibility and usually the best rate.

How can you reduce the cost of an office clearance?
- Decide what is staying. Tag anything moving to your new premises so it is not quoted for disposal.
- Sell or donate good furniture early. Quality items can often be reused, which cuts disposal costs. Our office furniture clearance guide explains how to plan this.
- Separate IT and confidential paper. Keeping these apart makes collection faster and simpler.
- Give clear access information. Lifts, loading bays and parking details help us plan the right crew size first time.
- Plan the clearance around your move. Our guide to planning an office clearance without disrupting your business covers timings in more detail.
Why the cheapest quote is not always the cheapest option
A very low price can be a warning sign. Waste handled by an unregistered carrier can end up fly tipped, and under the Duty of Care the business that produced the waste can still be held responsible. Always check that your contractor is registered with SEPA and that you receive a waste transfer note. Our article on waste transfer notes explains what to look for, and our post on why you should not use a white van man covers the risks.
How to get an accurate quote
The quickest way to an accurate price is to send us photos of each room, a rough count of the main items, the floor level and details of lift or loading access, and your deadline. For larger jobs we will arrange a free site survey. You can request a free quote online or call us on 0333 880 6800.
